Our Soft Tissue Treatments

Our goal is to give you a healthy, attractive and fully functional smile that you can feel proud to show off. Dr. Lopez is an experienced periodontist who has invested years of additional education and training in understanding the soft tissues of the mouth in order to offer the gentlest treatment results. Combining our periodontal specialty with over 100 hours of continuing education courses each year, we can provide advanced treatment plans that give you the results you deserve. Some of our soft tissue treatments commonly performed in our office include:

A gingivectomy is a treatment that removes infected gum tissue from your mouth. If you have been diagnosed with gum disease, you have gum tissue infected with bacteria and disease. Dr. Lopez can effectively remove this diseased tissue through a gingivectomy procedure. This leaves you only with healthy gums that can reattach to the teeth in a healthy manner.

Frenectomies are a delicate procedure that remove restrictive tissue in the mouth, commonly a tongue- or lip-tie. This tissue, called the frenum, is found beneath the tongue or upper lip and can restrict the movement of the soft tissues they are attached to. By severing this thin tissue, it frees up the tongue or lip to move more naturally. Additionally, this can provide improved comfort for patients and allow for a more natural oral function.

Patients who have a “gummy smile” can receive aesthetic crown lengthening to create a more balanced smile. We can gently remove excessive or overgrown gum tissue to reveal more of the tooth structure, making your teeth appear longer. In some cases, this treatment is necessary for those who may have a cavity underneath the gum line. The removal of this excess tissue allows for proper cleaning and treatment of the decay.
